ELIZABETH FORREST

15 George St

Printmaking was my main specialization when a student at the Ontario College of Art, and I later taught there for seven years in all print media.

After leaving OCA I travelled to Kyoto to research Japanese colour woodcut printing (mokuhanga) and remained in Japan developing a
woodblock practice, learning Japanese culture and language, and exhibiting for over a decade. In 1999  I returned home to Toronto and focussed on the practice of mokuhanga while showing my work in Toronto and abroad, and teaching colour woodcut workshops. In 2008 in collaboration with the Japan Foundation Toronto, I curated an international mokuhanga exhibition which opened on Nuit Blanche.

Waterloo became my new home in 2018. Finding a
supportive art community, I have been teaching workshops at the Button Factory and volunteering/exhibiting with the Grand River Artist Collective (formerly Artspay). In 2022 the City of Waterloo chose my design for shade and barrier structures at Sunview and Hickory Street Parks. Continuing to base my practice in drawing and woodblock print, last year I began to make digital life drawings on the Ipad. The fine art digital printouts of these drawings are the editioned prints I am presenting at MAST.
